Created using EU PGI status Armagh Bramley Apples, cider, brandy, treacles and spices, Irish Black Butter is the perfect versatile dairy and wheat free addition to toast, biscuits and cheese pairings.
Black Butter is a historical foodstuff made with apples, dating from Medieval times and made in parts of Western Europe and Ireland.
Here was something which could be produced from the locally grown EU PGI Status Armagh Bramley Apples grown in ‘Ireland’s orchard county.’
Steeped in locality, quality and provenance, Irish Black Butter has won numerous awards including three Gold Stars at the Great Taste Awards and awards at Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards.
It is now available in both retail and gift sizes alongside larger tubs for food service and ingredients businesses.
Irish Black Butter’s aim is to ‘spread a little happiness’ with you. They use locally sourced EU PGI status Armagh Bramley Apples from Ireland’s ‘orchard county’ to make their ultra versatile sweet and savoury spread. It is perfect for cooking, baking, spreading and mixing and is suitable for vegans.
In 2018 Morrelli’s Ice Cream got in touch with Alastair to explore Irish Black Butter being made into ice cream. This has won a Great Taste Award and is now available through Morelli’s outlets.
The following year Irish Black Butter appeared on the BBC programme Dragon’s Den.
In 2020 Irish Black Butter Peanut Spread was launched and won Best New Product Award at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show the same year.
